February 28, 2023 LAS VEGAS —  Today, Nevada State AFL-CIO Executive Secretary-Treasurer Susie Martinez issued the following statement on the re-introduction of the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act in the 118th Congress:

“Workers shouldn’t have to fight for their basic rights—the freedom to join a union should be guaranteed. The PRO Act would finally secure the right to organize for workers and ensure that employers are held accountable for misdeeds against their employees. Especially in a labor-powered state like Nevada, this legislation would be a huge stride forward in rebuilding our middle class and creating an economy that works for every single person.

Luckily, the members of Nevada’s Democratic congressional delegation have been staunch advocates for the PRO Act and continue to stand by our working families. However, corporate interests across the country want to deny workers the rights they need. It’s time to pass the PRO Act and give the workers that fuel America a voice in their future.”

The PRO Act would fundamentally change the landscape for workers. It would give all workers the right to organize and guarantee free and fair union elections. It would also end malicious employers’ practice of punishing striking workers by hiring permanent replacements, as well as repeal discriminatory “right to work” laws that lead to lower wages, fewer benefits, and dangerous workplaces.
