Las Vegas, Nev. — Today, Friday, October 8, the city of Las Vegas will host its Pride Parade, to uplift the LGBTQIA+ communities in Southern Nevada.

The Nevada State AFL-CIO Executive Secretary-Treasurer Susie Martinez released the following statement to support the parade and following festival, and stand in solidarity with LBGTQIA+ workers:

“The labor movement has led the fight for better lives for working people, including standing on the front lines in the fight for the rights of our LGBTQIA+ union members.

A union contract is the best protection for LGBTQIA+ working people against employment discrimination. While employment discrimination is now illegal under federal law, a collective agreement can provide assistance and support to those facing unfair treatment in the workplace, and comfort that your union family has your back!

The Nevada State AFL-CIO stands with the LGBTQIA+ community, many of whom are our union members, and reassert that we oppose all forms of bias and discrimination on the job based on sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, race, age, disability, immigration status, HIV status, marital status, or religion. We stand with those celebrating Pride today and every day."
