LAS VEGAS, NV — April 27, 2022 Today, the Nevada State AFL-CIO announced the 2022 Primary statewide endorsements for several public offices.

Our members come from the building and construction trades, the service trades, public employee sector, and many more. Nurses, firefighters, caregivers and grocery workers were among the many local delegates who gathered today to vote on which leaders would earn the support of the State Federation’s more than 150,000 working families.

The Nevada State AFL-CIO’s has undertaken a robust political engagement effort to ensure members have the opportunity to meet and assess candidates. This member-driven process is at the heart of the state federation’s endorsement decision.

Workers evaluated candidate’s records on affordable housing, liveable wages, education, healthcare, transportation and retirement security - as well as their willingness to stand up to special interests to help working people.

“Nevada’s labor movement is eager to begin getting the word out about our worker endorsed candidates. Working people deserve a voice at our state capitol and in the halls of congress”, said Susie Martinez, Nevada State AFL-CIO Executive Secretary-Treasurer. “It’s time to rebalance the scales of power by electing those who aren’t afraid to stand up to special interests and greedy CEOs.”

Leading the list of strategic endorsements were Steve Sisolak for Governor and Catherine Cortez Masto for U.S. Senate. The Nevada State AFL-CIO also endorsed several union members for the Nevada State Legislature. When union members hold public office, they deliver pro-worker legislation to help working families throughout the country.

The Nevada State AFL-CIO brings the full strength of its 150,000 members across an array of professions to its endorsed candidates, harnessing the power of workers to engage voters and lead candidates to victory on election day.
