Nevada afl-cio now hiring an Office Assistant

Based in Henderson/Las Vegas, NV

WAGE RANGE: $17/hr

WORK HOURS: Part-time, 30 hours a week

This position reports to the Executive Secretary-Treasurer or designee and is primarily responsible for daily clerical support. This position will provide clerical support to the staff representatives, organizers, and other affiliates.


  • General office support for both staff and visitors
  • Plan meeting logistics, announcements and take detailed minutes
  • Develop and maintain a filing system
  • Places, answers, screens, and redirects a large volume of telephone calls.
  • Maintain contact lists of staff, members, vendors, and other agencies.
  • Performs receptionist duties, receives visitors, determines need and directs accordingly.
  • Receives, date stamps and distributes mail. Prioritizes mail and handles routine requests when necessary.
  • Takes dictation of letters, memos, reports and other documents and transcribes using work processor. Proofreads for accuracy, grammar, and punctuation. Duplicates and circulates documents accordingly.
  • May maintain office petty cash and revolving fund account. May prepare monthly bank reconciliation forms, write checks, balance accounting books, and submit necessary reports.
  • Inventories and orders supplies with attention to quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Makes hotel and airline reservations as requested. Prepares travel itinerary and confirms all plans.
  • Makes arrangements for conferences and organizing meetings.
  • Update membership files, database, and the International office
  • Maintains the meeting room calendar
  • May maintain Legislative Assembly and Senate bills file.
  • Provides other support to office and field staff as requested
  • Participation in NV AFL-CIO engagement activities as needed
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned


  • Background described would normally be obtained through a combination of high school education (or equivalent) and office experience, including the proficient use of software programs to provide the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Knowledge of office equipment, such as copier, scanner, telephone and fax machines and other similar machinery.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to proofread and compose simple correspondence. Proficiency in Proficiency in MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical computations.
  • Communication skills sufficient to exchange routine information and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all employees.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve, and prioritizes the work of others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication

Work is performed in an office environment.
