The 2018 Arnold/Jones/Evans Scholarship


Nevada high school seniors in the graduating class of 2018 with a 2.0 or higher GPA may apply for this scholarship. One parent must be an active or retired member in good standing of any local union affiliated with the Nevada State AFL-CIO. Student must be planning to attend a college, university, vocational or trade school. Five scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each will be offered. Deadline to apply is July 20, 2018.

To apply, answer the following question in essay form (1,000 words minimum), then follow the instructions below. Your 2018 question is:

Historically, younger workers have been less likely than older workers to be union members. This trend looks to be changing. In 2017, the number of union members in the US increased by over 262,000 and 3/4 of those gains were among workers 34 years old and younger. How can the union movement continue to develop and grow in a way that attracts more young workers and encourages the development of young leaders? What do you see as ways for the union movement to bridge generational differences between older workers and younger workers?


The 2018 Arnold/Jones/Evans Scholarship is administered through the Public Education Foundation. To apply:

1. Access the scholarship sign up page on and create an account. 

2. Check your email for the link to begin your application.

3. Complete your general application, sign and submit.

4. Next, access the Arnold/Jones/Evans scholarship page and choose "apply." (Be sure you're logged in).

5. Answer the supplemental questions, and enter your essay into the space provided.

6. Upload your unofficial transcripts.

7. Click "Finish and submit!"

Verification of college enrollment (class schedule) will be required during the summer before a check is mailed to the college. Scholarship funds must be applied toward tuition, fees, and other appropriate educational expenses. These funds will be disbursed in equal payments over two semesters.
