Liz Sorenson has served as President of the Nevada State AFL-CIO since 2017. She began her career over 40 years ago as an employee of Pacific Bell and CWA member in Southern California. Her first taste of activism as a union member was participating in two different strikes against AT&T as a picket captain. In 1990 she transferred to Nevada Bell, moved to Reno, Nevada and became a member of CWA Local 9413. After her second daughter was born in 1991 she took a child care leave for a year and came back ready to serve her union. She served as a steward, organizer, lobbyist, and officer for the local.  She was eventually hired as CWA District 9 Staff Representative, and later, Area Director/Political Director until 2021. With a breadth of organizing experience, Liz has run the Nevada State AFL-CIO Political Walk Program since 2000. She was elected as a board member of the Nevada State AFL-CIO in 2009 and is currently serving in her second term as President after being re-elected in 2021.
